The Metamorphosis Duo is a Twin Cities violin duo with repertoire spanning multiple genres, focusing heavily on music written by under-represented composers. Equally at home on a formal recital stage or an electro-acoustic event, they have a broad range of performance experience.
About Catherine
Catherine Himmerich holds both a bachelor’s degree, summa cum laude in Violin Performance, and a master’s degree from the University of Minnesota. Prior to that, she studied at the Music Institute of Chicago and the Wisconsin Conservatory of Music in Milwaukee.
Catherine is the concertmaster of the Minnesota Philharmonic Orchestra and was the soloist on the Violin Concerto by Samuel Coleridge-Taylor in 2019 and on Tzigane by Maurice Ravel in 2016. She has performed with rock bands such as the Eagles and Hanson and has been concertmaster and guest concertmaster of various choral/orchestral ensembles in the Twin Cities metro. She is on the faculty of the Saint Paul Conservatory of Music and has had a long-standing commitment to including repertoire by under-represented composers in her teaching.
About Joe
Joe Dolson received his bachelor’s degree in music from Macalester College in 2000, and has continued to perform in the Twin Cities since then.
He was the concertmaster of the Minnesota Philharmonic Orchestra from 2000 until 2014, and continues as the associate concertmaster.
Joe also performs on the baroque violin, performing regularly in the Twin Cities with baroque ensemble Sospiri.
